Ethics Bowl team places at Upper Midwest Regional competition

The Ripon College Ethics Bowl team competed at the Upper Midwest Regional competition at Illinois Institute of Technology Nov. 17 and 18. Both teams garnered a record of 2-2 against teams from Macalester, Adrian, Illinois Wesleyn, Carleton, UD Mercy, Tiffin and Bowling Green. They ranked 11 and 16 among 30 teams.

Members of the team are: Mohammed Bahabadi ’22 of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Mitra Kermani ’20 of Louisville, Colorado; Anya Korovets ’21 of Baraboo, Wisconsin; Cass Larsen ’20 of Neenah, Wisconsin; Wyatt McGillen ’19 of Kalispell, Montana; Erik Osmonson ’21 of Coon Rapids, Minnesota; and Haley Stowell ’20 of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

Round 1 focused on cases about Halal and Kosher traditions being a form of religious expression and the intersection of trans-racial identity; Round 2 focused on cases about healthcare and an aging population and whether victims should have a say in the carrying out of justice of perpetrators; Round 3 focused on cases about voting rights being restored to felons and censorship laws around vulgar language; and Round 4 focused on cases about Amish midwifery and freedom of religious medical practice and the use of 23andMe/ancestry websites by law enforcement.
