Ripon receives National Science Foundation grant to study quantitative reasoning

A team of Ripon College faculty has received a National Science Foundation grant of $297,715 for the project “Building Capacity for Interdisciplinary Quantitative Reasoning Instruction.”

The grant award, number DUE-1822414, is funded through the Improving Undergraduate STEM Education: Education and Human Resources solicitation.

Principal investigators of the project are Andrea Young, special assistant to the president, liaison to the Board of Trustees, and associate professor of mathematical sciences; McKenzie Lamb, associate professor of mathematical sciences; Steve Martin, associate professor of communication; Matt Knoester, associate professor of educational studies; and Soren Hauge, professor of economics and the John Barlow Murray ’37 and Nellie Weiss Murray ’37 Professor in Economics.

The grant will provide support for faculty to develop expertise in quantitative reasoning and to study how the College’s approach to quantitative reasoning instruction affects student attitudes and learning gains.
