Chamber Singers to open Midwest tour at Ripon College March 10

The Ripon College Chamber Singers will conduct their annual tour during spring break March 10-19. John C. Hughes, assistant professor of music and director of choral activities, is the conductor.

The ensemble will perform a variety of unaccompanied choral works. They will be joined by guest choirs and artists at several locations. Every concert is free and open to the public, and good-will offerings will be accepted.

“Touring has numerous benefits,” Hughes says. “Instead of working on music for a couple months, performing it once, and then moving on to the next set, touring offers repeat performances. It’s astonishing to watch the music evolve and change over the six performances.

“Additionally, it’s interesting to sing in different acoustics every night and to let the performance spaces shape our musical interpretations. Besides these musical and educational benefits, the students grow as a group and have a lot of fun along the way. I still remember going on tour when I was in college, and those are some of my most cherished memories. I’m honored to help provide a similar opportunity for my students today.”

• Friday, March 15, 7:30 p.m., Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, Wisconsin, with the Sheboygan Lutheran High School Konzertchor.
• Saturday, March 16, 7 p.m., St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Waukesha, Wisconsin, with the combined choirs of St. Luke’s, St. John’s and Ascension Lutheran churches.
• Sunday, March 17, 7:30 p.m., Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Watertown, Wisconsin.
• Monday, March 18, 7 p.m., Stoughton High School Performing Arts Center, Stoughton, Wisconsin, with the Stoughton High School Concert Choir.
• Tuesday, March 19, 7:30 p.m., Holy Name Heights Chapel, Madison, Wisconsin, with the Madison Diocesan Choir.
