Panel to discuss right to protest April 17

“Protesting: Provocative, Patriotic, Pertinent,” a panel discussion, will be presented April 17 at Ripon College. The event will begin at 4:15 p.m. in Kresge Little Theater, East Hall, and is free and open to the public.

Protesting has been a time-honored right of American citizens from the days of the American Revolution. However, when is a protest justified and is protesting violently ever justified?

In the wake of the Women’s March and March for Our Lives, the panel will discuss the history and controversy surrounding one of the greatest unalienable rights of American citizens.

Speakers will be:

  • Bren Davis ’22 of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, an English major, president of the Ripon College Feminists and public relations officer of the Black Student Union.
  • Stefani Zeiger ’21 of Mundelein, Illinois, a communication major who is involved in soccer, WRPN, the College Democrats and Ripon College feminists.
  • Parker Cox ’21 of Clayton, Wisconsin, a communication major, member of Theta Chi fraternity and co-host of the WRPN podcast “Just Roll with It.”
  • Steven Miller ’07 is a Ripon alumnus and a visiting professor of philosophy at Ripon College.

The panel will be moderated by Henrik Schatzinger, associate professor of politics and government, chair of the Department of Politics and Government and co-director of the Center for Politics and the People.

The event sponsor is the Student Advisory Board of the Center for Politics and the People.
