Ripon’s FLASH Internship program a finalist for national honors

Ripon College’s FLASH Internship program of the Center for Career and Professional Development is one of nine nominees for Most Innovative Career Initiatives at Colleges and Universities by The Career Leadership Collective national organization. Three winners will be announced at its annual conference in April.

FLASH Internships are the only project-based short-term experiences in Wisconsin that are designed to get results for the employer and for the student and create an innovative talent pipeline for high-performing organizations. Initial project-based micro-internships were with Milwaukee-based business/employer partners, and plans are to expand to businesses and employers throughout Wisconsin.

“It is exciting to know that our students are experiencing career opportunities on par with programs at much larger institutions including fellow nominees the University of Connecticut, University of Redlands, Miami University, DePaul University, University of Delaware, Kent State University, Columbia College Chicago and Wake Forest University,” says Sara Hathaway, director of Career and Professional Development.

“We are trying to level the playing field for our students that allows them to have an internship experience and leverage their liberal arts skills in an equitable and innovative way. The future of the workforce is calling for faster, more economical and results-driven solutions to global social issues. Organizations no longer have the luxury of planning their next move far in advance, and emerging generations’ skills are better suited to using efficient technologically related products to sift through data and inadequate decisions quickly to better define workable and innovative solutions. The FLASH program matches the need for fast and ideal solutions with future workers who have known no other way of finding their way in the world.”
