Student research in the spotlight during Scholars Week
The wide breadth of research being conducted by Ripon College faculty, students and collaborations between them will be highlighted during Scholars Week April 20 through 23. All are welcome and encouraged to attend the week’s activities. While the presentation formats may be diverse, all papers submitted by the presenters will be available for reading in an online digital collection at rcseniorshowcase.omeka.net through the Ripon College Lane Library.
Monday, April 20: Select faculty presentations will be presented at 4:15 p.m. in the Dahm Heritage Room, S.N. Pickard Commons.
- “Storytelling in and across Religions: Allegorical or Literal Meanings?” will be presented by Brian Smith, professor of religion; Charles and Joan Van Zoeren Chair in Religion, Ethics and Values; and chair of the Department of Religion.
- “Acylphthalimides as a Vehicle for Venturing Chemical Space” will be presented by Patrick Willoughby, assistant professor of chemistry.
Tuesday, April 21: The Faculty-Student Panel will begin at 4:15 p.m. in Kresge Little Theatre, East Hall. Presentations will be made by:
- Barbara Sisson, assistant professor of biology; and Raymond Allen ’15 of Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, a chemistry-biology major and Latin minor
- David Sakrison, adjunct instructor of business management, and Christian Krueger ’15 of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, majoring in history and studio art with minors in Spanish and museum studies
- Mary Avery, professor of business management, director of business management and chair of the department; and Karena Schroeder ’15 of Clintonville, Wisconsin, an exercise science and communication major with a minor in business management
- Andrea Young, assistant professor of mathematics and computer science, and Lincoln Wurtz ’17 of Ripon, Wisconsin, majoring in mathematics and chemistry-biology
- Henrik Schatzinger, assistant professor of politics and government, and Abigail Quackenboss ’15 of St. Cloud, Wisconsin, majoring in politics and government with a minor in mathematics
Wednesday, April 22: The annual Awards Convocation, honoring achievements of faculty, staff and students during the past academic year, will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.
Thursday, April 23: The 7th annual Senior Showcase, a celebration of scholarly and artistic excellence across the liberal arts, will be held in Todd Wehr Hall and Harwood Memorial Union. Select students from a variety of departments will share presentation and posters.
Presentations will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Todd Wehr Hall, rooms 105 to 109. Presenters include:
