Symphonic Wind Ensemble performs Sunday

The Ripon College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Professor of Music Kurt Dietrich, will perform its spring concert at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, April 19. The concert will be in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the campus. Admission is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of a wide variety of wind band literature, including “Canzona Bergamasca,” by Baroque composer Samuel Scheidt; Richard Wagner’s well-known funeral music, “Trauersinfonie”; a transcription of Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Russian Easter Overture”; “Walking Tune,” by Percy Grainger; and a classic march by Henry Fillmore, “The Klaxon.”

The second half of the program will feature two outstanding contemporary works, “Dusk,” by Steven Bryant; and Frank Ticheli’s major work “Angels in the Architecture.” The latter will feature Adjunct Instructor of Music Joyce Andrews, soprano, singing the Shaker tune that is at the heart of Ticheli’s work.
