Ripon Returns to Green Status on Thursday, January 28

Dear Ripon community,

Tomorrow morning (Thursday, Jan. 28), Ripon College will return to green status for COVID-19. Scheduled in-person classes will resume, the Commons, the Spot and Starbucks will be open for seated (physically distant dining) and the Willmore Center and Lane Library will resume normal hours of operation. As always, however, we ask that you wear a mask, maintain physical distancing rules and adhere to proper hygiene regulations. For the latest statistics about Ripon College and COVID-19, please visit our community dashboard, which is updated on a weekly basis.

The results of the initial COVID-19 tests for faculty, staff and students that took place between Friday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 24 are as follows:

  • 777 total tests
  • Negative 706 = 99.3% (of pos/neg results)
  • Positive 5 = 0.7% (of pos/neg results)
  • 66 tests were unable to produce a positive or negative result for a variety of reasons. These individuals have been contacted by Health Services and have been or will be retested

While it is our intention to first use our own quarantine and isolation spaces on campus, we have also entered into an agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to use their facilities should we have the need of additional space.

Beginning on Monday, Feb. 1, the College will begin random weekly surveillance testing. We will be selecting approximately ¼ of the college community for a COVID-19 test. When you are chosen, you will receive a message instructing you where and when to report for your test.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to do a second full campus-wide testing event on Tuesday, Feb. 8. All students, faculty or staff who plan to be on campus during the spring semester must receive a second test result. Testing will take place in the Keipe Practice Gymnasium in the Willmore Center. Tests are free of charge.  In the coming days, additional logistics and details will be communicated from [email protected].

Our ability to stay safe and healthy as a community depends on the collective action and goodwill of everyone. Everyone should be very proud of the way the RC community has rallied behind physical distancing, masking and testing. Everyone’s concern and care makes it work for all of us.

I wish everyone a healthy, safe and productive semester.

Sincerely,

Zach Messitte

President
Professor of Politics and Government
