WHAT CHIROPRACTIC SCHOOLS ARE LOOKING FOR

A doctor of chiropractic is a primary health care provider trained in physical examination, orthopedic and neurological assessment, radiographic interpretation, and joint manipulation. Admissions committees want to see readiness for that work.

Here’s what they’re evaluating:

  • A minimum of 90 undergraduate semester credits—though most entering
  • students hold a full bachelor’s degree
  • A competitive GPA, typically 3.0 or higher, with no science course below a “C”
  • A strong base in the life and physical sciences, with lab experience
  • Accreditation of your chosen program by the Council of Chiropractic Education

Specific admission requirements vary from school to school, so it’s worth confirming details directly with any program you plan to apply to.

BUILD THE RIGHT FOUNDATION*

There’s no single required major for chiropractic school, but there is a roadmap—and your advisor will help you follow it from day one.

Your core science requirements:

  • Chemistry — Organic Chemistry I (CHM 111) and General Chemistry I (CHM 112)
  • Biology — Molecules, Cells and Genes (BIO 123)
  • Physics — Physics I (PHY 131)

Some schools also require or recommend:

  • General Chemistry II (CHM 211) and Organic Chemistry II (CHM 214)
  • Human Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 211)

Other suggested coursework:

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II (BIO 312)
  • Vertebrate Zoology (BIO 216) or Animal Diversity (BIO 229)
  • Genetics (BIO 219)
  • Microbiology (BIO 314)
  • Cell and Molecular Biology (BIO 266)
  • Physics II (PHY 152/172)
  • Introductory Psychology (PSC 110)
  • Introductory Sociology (SOC 110)

Accredited programs typically require at least 24 semester credits in the life and physical sciences, with at least half including a lab component.

*Specific admission requirements vary from school to school, and students should plan carefully to ensure their coursework and experience enhance their chances for admission. See the Health Professions section of the Ripon College Course Catalog for more information.
