The Ethics Bowl is an experience that many students count as the most influential during their time here at Ripon College. The Ethics Bowl is a nationally recognized competition in which students are provided ethical case studies and must present arguments to a panel of judges and teams from other colleges and universities.
The arguments are judged on the students’ use of ethical discovering and decision making, presentation and the ability to draw out nuances in the cases. Past topics have included medical outsourcing, biofuel, client confidentiality, animal welfare and many other ethical dilemmas. During the previous Ethics Bowl Regional Competition the case studies provided powerful examples of ethical dilemmas faced in our society.
Ripon College is a competitive team that competes in regional and national competitions across the country each year. The team is currently the four-time upper-midwest regional champion, and has placed at other international ethics competitions.
