Update on Ripon College Health and Safety and the Coronavirus | March 11, 2020

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

As I have communicated over the past few days, and just reiterated with the members of the Student Senate this evening, the College’s Response Team is monitoring the spread of COVID-19 and remaining in close contact with local officials and our counterparts at other colleges. We realize how dynamic this situation is and want to make the best possible decisions based on the most current information that will keep our community safe.

This afternoon there were two confirmed cases of coronavirus in Fond du Lac County. We are cancelling all non-essential campus events (speakers, athletic practices, extra-curricular programs) for the rest of the week. At this point, classes will continue to meet through Friday when spring begins in the afternoon.

The College will have a more complete statement on Thursday, March 12 (tomorrow) regarding the following issues:

  • Length of spring break
  • Online classes
  • College-sponsored spring break travel
  • For faculty and staff, we would ask that if you find yourself in extraordinary circumstances and are unable to perform your duties that you consult immediately with your appropriate Vice President to determine what sort of accommodation can be made to fulfill your job responsibilities.

As a preventative measure, we are asking students to prepare to take all essential personal and course materials with them prior to departing campus for spring break on Friday, March 13.

We will continue to adhere to the travel recommendations and restrictions outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of State. The links can be found below:

  • US Department of State, Current Outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019
  • Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Coronavirus Disease 2019, Information for Travel
  • Pertinent updates will be provided to you and your families through traditional college channels as soon as they are available and necessary.  Please continue to actively monitor your ripon.edu email. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

    Zach Messitte
    President
