Author, textile artist will speak at 314 project space Wednesday, Feb. 17

Author and textile artist Rachel May will make an appearance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 314; Ripon College Project Space, 314 Watson St., in downtown Ripon. The visit is sponsored by the Ripon College Visiting Writers Series, and all are welcome to attend.

May will read from her collection of short fiction, The Experiments, and discuss the textile art illustrations that accompany her work. Books will be available for purchase. In addition, May’s textile art will be on view at the 314 project space from Feb. 14 to 21 during regular hours.

May is an assistant professor of English at Northern Michigan University. Her first book, Quilting with a Modern Slant, was published in January 2014 and named a Best Book of 2014 by Library Journal and Amazon.com, and favorably reviewed in The Chicago Tribune, Publisher’s Weekly, The Library Journal (starred), The LA Times, The Providence Journal and MarthaStewartLiving.com. The Experiments: A Legend in Pictures & Words recently was published by Dusie Press (September 2015), and her embroidered illustrations accompany two novellas published by Jaded Ibis Press (December 2014). The Benedictines, a novel, is newly published by Braddock Avenue Books.
