Ripon College to host CESA 6 diversity event and fair Thursday
Ripon College was selected to host the CESA 6 Multilingual Multicultural Post Secondary Fair Thursday, Nov. 3. Multilingual multicultural students, parents and staff from 39 public school districts in eight nearby counties will attend. The CESA 6 Language and Culture Center annually hosts a similar opportunity on a local campus.
Highlights will include breakout sessions on topics such as tips on paying for college, applying to college and campus resources. Attendees also will tour Ripon’s campus, have lunch and talk with representatives from college, military and community organizations specifically geared toward supporting first-time college attendees in multiple languages and a campus tour. Multilingual staff provide interpretation in the multiple languages represented.
Colleges in attendance will include Ripon, Lawrence University, ROTC, Milwaukee School of Engineering, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Whitewater, UW-Green Bay, Edgewood College, Marian University and Alverno College.
Lori Menning, English Learner, Bilingual-Bicultural Consultant at CESA 6, says, “This is an annual event to support students and families as they strive to become college, career or community ready prior to graduation. Most of the students that will attend will be first-generation college attendees. We are grateful to Ripon College for hosting this year’s event.”
