Award-winning fiction writer will read at Ripon College Nov. 2
Danielle Evans, assistant professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and author of the short story collection “Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self,” will read from her work Nov. 2 at Ripon College.
Evans’ talk will run from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the North Reading Room of Lane Library on the campus. All are welcome to attend.
In 2011, Evans was honored by the National Book Foundation as one of its “5 Under 35” fiction writers. “Before You Suffocate Your Own Fool Self,” her first short story collection, won the 2011 PEN/Robert Bingham Prize. The collection’s title echoes a line from “The Bridge Poem” from Kate Rushin’s collection, “The Black Back-Ups” (Firebrand Books, 1993).
The New York Times observed that the stories “evoke the thrill of an all-night conversation with your hip, frank, funny college roommate.”
Evans’ work was anthologized in Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Best American Short Stories collections in 2008 and 2010. Her stories also have appeared in The Paris Review and A Public Space.
