Steinway Dedication Recital
Ripon College’s new Steinway concert grand piano will be officially dedicated during a recital Friday, Oct. 4. The recital will begin at 8 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.
The piano arrived last spring after it was purchased with a gift from the estate of Frank Brewster ’65.
The guest artist for the recital will be Sean Chen. He will perform “Waltz in A Major,” opus 38, by Alexander Scriabin; “Four Impromptus,” by Frédéric Chopin; “La Valse,” by Maurice Ravel, arranged by Chen; and Piano Sonata No. 8 in B Major, op. 84, by Sergei Prokofiev.
Chen has received numerous national and international awards, including the 2013 Christel DeHaan Classical Fellow of the American Pianists Association; second prize at the 2011 Seoul International Music Competition; third prize at the 2013 Morocco Philharmony International Piano Competition; and an award at the 2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition.
He has performed with several orchestras; presented solo recitals; worked with composers to perform new music; and been invited to participated in many competitions.
He will be releasing an album of Michael Williams’s solo piano works on the Parma record label.
