Steinway Dedication Recital
Ripon College’s new Steinway concert grand piano will be officially dedicated during a recital Friday, Oct. 4. The recital will begin at 8 p.m. in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts.
The piano arrived last spring after it was purchased with a gift from the estate of Frank Brewster ’65.
The guest artist for the recital will be Sean Chen. He will perform “Waltz in A Major,” opus 38, by Alexander Scriabin; “Four Impromptus,” by Frédéric Chopin; “La Valse,” by Maurice Ravel, arranged by Chen; and Piano Sonata No. 8 in B Major, op. 84, by Sergei Prokofiev.
Chen has received numerous national and international awards, including the 2013 Christel DeHaan Classical Fellow of the American Pianists Association; second prize at the 2011 Seoul International Music Competition; third prize at the 2013 Morocco Philharmony International Piano Competition; and an award at the 2009 Cleveland International Piano Competition.
He has performed with several orchestras; presented solo recitals; worked with composers to perform new music; and been invited to participated in many competitions.
He will be releasing an album of Michael Williams’s solo piano works on the Parma record label.
Admission to the concert is free.
