Historian and Foreign Policy Analyst Max Boot to Present at Ripon College
On November 6, 2013, the International Relations Club of Ripon College will be sponsoring a presentation by Max Boot, one of America’s leading military historians and foreign policy analysts. The presentation will take place at 4:30 PM in Harwood Memorial Union’s Great Hall.
Boot currently serves as the Jeane J. Kirkpatrick Senior Fellow in National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also a regular contributor to The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and a contributing editor for The Weekly Standard and the Los Angeles Times. Boot will be presenting on the history of guerilla warfare and counterinsurgency operations from ancient times to the present, with special emphasis on the United States’ role in countering international insurgencies.
In the past, Boot has served as an adviser to U.S. commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also lectured on behalf of the U.S. State Department at many military institutions, including the Army, Navy, and Air War Colleges, the Australian Defense College, the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare School, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. In 2004, he was named one of “the 500 most influential people in the United States in the field of foreign policy” by the World Affairs Council.
Over the years, Boot has published several books in the fields of military history and foreign policy, including such works as Invisible Armies: An Epic History of Guerilla Warfare from Ancient Times to the Present (2013), The Savage Wars of Peace: Small Wars and the Rise of American Power (2002), and War Made New: Technology, Warfare, and the Course of History — 1500 to Today (2006).
