Former Gang Members to Tell Their Stories
Two former gang members turned hate-prevention experts, Frank Meeink and Sammy Rangel, will talk about their experiences in a presentation Tuesday, 11/12 on the Ripon College campus. “There is Life After Hate” will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Bear Auditorium, Farr Hall.
The speakers will share their separate journeys from lives of street violence, into the prison system, and now into work as advocates for compassion. Both have left the gang lifestyle and have dedicated their lives to working with youths who are susceptible to gang influence, as well as speaking to the public about why they joined gangs and how they escaped the lifestyle.
Book signings will follow the presentation for “Autobiography of a Recovering Skinhead: The Frank Meeink Story as told to Jody M. Roy,” and “Four Bears: Myths of Forgiveness,” by Sammy Rangel.
Note: This presentation will include graphic language and discussions of violence.
