Violinist, pianist to present recital at Ripon College

Violinst Klara Fenyö Bahcall and pianist Noémi Maczelka will perform at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, March 9, in Demmer Recital Hall, C.J. Rodman Center for the Arts, on the Ripon College campus. Admission is free.

The duo will perform two suites for violin and piano by Carl Goldmark (1830-1915).

Bahcall was born in Budapest, Hungary, and graduated from the Bela Bartok Conservatory of Music and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. She won first place at both the Hungarian National Violin Competition and the Budapest Chamber Music Competition. Until coming to the United States, she was the concertmaster of the Hungarian National Opera as well as the soloist of the Hungarian National Radio.

She performs frequently throughout Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Canada and the United States, and on Wisconsin Public Radio. She teaches violin, viola and chamber music at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh; is music director of the “Chamber Music Week at the Clearing” in Door County, Wisconsin; and has been concertmaster of the Oshkosh Symphony Orchestra for 11 years.

Maczelka graduated from the Budapest Franz Liszt Academy of Music. She won first prize in Italy on the Casale Monferrato competition, received the extra prize on the Carlo Soliva competition and has twice received the Artisjus-prize for performance of Hungarian contemporary music. She gives concerts across Europe and the United States, and her recordings are broadcast on radio and television.

She is a professor and the head of the music education department of the Art Institute of the Szeged Juhász Gyula University in Hungary. She also is a guest professor of the University Babes-Bolyai in Cluj-Napoca, in Romania.
