Update on Ripon College Health and Safety and the Coronavirus
Dear Ripon College community,
On Monday, March 9 the Ripon College Emergency Operations Response Team met with representatives of the Fond du Lac County Health Department and Ripon Medical Center to discuss the evolving situation and spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Please reference the informational summary below as the most up-to-date, accurate, and relevant campus information.
As of today, there have been no confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the Ripon College community. Furthermore, the Fond du Lac County Health Department has confirmed that to date there are no known cases within the County. State health officials announced late today that a second person in Wisconsin has tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Department of Health Services, a person in Pierce County was exposed while traveling within the U.S. and is currently isolated at home. Last month, a person in Dane County tested positive after traveling to China and has since recovered.
Over the course of the weekend, concerns were brought to our attention regarding some students who had potential exposure to COVID-19 after attending a national conference. As a preventative measure, and operating out of an abundance of caution for the community, certain Ripon College students were excused from classes on Monday, March 9. We have been advised by the Fond du Lac County Health Department that there is no need to quarantine those students at this time.
At this time, Ripon College is not restricting domestic travel during spring break for students, faculty, or staff. If you do travel be prepared to be flexible regarding your plans. If public health concerns regarding your travel destination have changed by the time you return, self-isolation or quarantine may be required. We will continue to adhere to the travel recommendations and restrictions outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Department of State. The Fond du Lac County Health Department continues to urge campus constituents to follow appropriate hygiene protocol as outlined by the CDC. If you believe you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, please call before going to Health Services or another health provider.
