Panel will discuss Abrahamic religious traditions Tuesday
“Side-By-Side: The Abrahamic Traditions in Dialogue” will be an interfaith panel discussion of three major religious traditions, to be held Tuesday, March 31, at Ripon College.
The program will run from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Martin Luther King Jr. Lounge of Harwood Memorial Union. A reception will follow, and the public is invited to attend.
The discussion will focus on the three Abrahamic traditions (Islam, Judaism and Christianity) and how they can and should relate to one another in the modern world. Representatives from each tradition will speak about their faith.
They include:
• Rabbi David Brusin, Ripon College adjunct professor of religion, who also teaches at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.
• The Rev. Dr. Kevin Mundell, pastor of Our Savior’s United Church of Christ in Ripon.
• Mohammad Rashid, president of the Fox Valley Islamic Society in Neenah, Wisconsin, and a lifelong banker, currently vice president, commercial banking, at Fidelity Bank, Appleton.
Each speaker will give a brief summary of the origins and core beliefs of their specific traditions, discuss the importance of positive dialogue between the three religious traditions, relate how the traditions are and could be working together, and answer questions from the audience.
The program is being planned and sponsored by student members of Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honor society for religious studies and theology. They include Alex Baldschun ’15 of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Zach Muench ’15 of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Wylie Gahart ’15 of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and Stephen Umhoefer ’15 of Green Bay, Wisconsin.
