Ripon College is launching new engineering program

The engineering degree we are offering is a B.S. in Engineering which is a general engineering degree without an emphasis in a particular discipline (such as Mechanical, Electrical, etc.). Our degree prepares graduates for a variety of different careers in engineering, with Ripon College’s small size providing students with more direct interaction with their instructors and smaller class sizes.
Our newly remodeled Franzen Science Center which will include new/remodeled space of ~5000 sq ft for Engineering, including a new maker space, machine shop, electronics workshop, senior design space and several upper level laboratory classrooms.
Ripon’s engineering program is designed so that it will meet ABET requirements for an Engineering B.S. The program will be eligible for accreditation after our first group of graduates (accreditation if granted applies to all graduates of the program).
Ripon College is an excellent liberal arts institution and as such we will strive to produce engineering graduates who are strong not only in math, science and engineering but also well rounded with courses taken in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Our graduates will be well rounded, effective public speakers and work well in groups to complete a variety of projects.
“Ripon College isn’t just growing campus spaces,” said John Sisko, Ripon College vice president and dean of faculty. “We are making curricular expansions to meet the educational needs of current and future STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) students. The physical needs of the engineering program as well as state-of-the-art facilities for all of our science programs were integral considerations throughout the entire design process for the new building.”
The mission of Ripon College Engineering Program is to provide students a high-quality engineering education that builds upon Ripon College’s exceptionally strong liberal arts focus that will prepare students of diverse backgrounds for careers in professional engineering or other careers. The Engineering Program equips students to solve complex engineering problems by applying the principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. Additionally, students will learn to communicate effectively to a range of audiences, work collaboratively in groups, apply critical thinking to a diverse set of problems and establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives. Our students will gain the ability to acquire and apply new knowledge to solve real-world engineering problems in a variety of disciplines.
Physics
Interact with, measure and explain systems in the universe from subatomic particles to galactic clusters by working together in the classroom and the lab to answer questions posed by nature. Learn to apply the principles of physics to concerns of society, coming to an appreciation of the beauty and subtlety of the universe.

Ripon College faculty and professional staff are dedicated to helping you reach your goals, whatever they may be and however often they may change along the way. It’s part of our value statement to you.
As a student at Ripon, you will be assigned a faculty adviser based on your area(s) of interest. You will meet with your faculty adviser throughout your time as a student to discuss your current aspirations, plan your course schedule and plot a future trajectory. We also work collaboratively with Ripon College Career and Professional Development to help match your interests and skills to concrete goals and construct a plan for professional success offering personalized career counseling, off-campus learning opportunities and an online job board with potential to connect with local, national and international employers.
