Mathematician, sculptor to build giant project at Ripon College on March 21

Sculptor and mathematician George Hart will visit Ripon College March 21. He will speak about his sculptures and outreach projects at 10:10 a.m. in room 104, Todd Wehr Hall on the campus.

In the afternoon, Hart will help lead a mathematical construction workshop to build a life-size cardboard sculpture to stay on the Ripon College campus. The workshop will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at 314: Ripon College Project Space, at 314 Watson St., downtown Ripon.

Members of the public are invited to attend both events.

Hart is a research professor at Stony Brook University and frequently travels to conferences and universities to give workshops. He also is the father of YouTube celebrity Vi Hart.

His visit is sponsored by the Ripon College Math Club, in collaboration with the Mathematical
Sciences Department, as part of the club’s goal to develop a deeper appreciation of mathematics in the Ripon community. As an artist and a mathematician, Hart reflects the liberal arts ideal of collaboration among disciplines.

The visit is supported by a Twenty for ’16 grant from the Office of the President at Ripon College.
