Midwest Conference Suspends 2020-2021 Winter Sports Season

Dear campus community,
Earlier today, the Midwest Conference (MWC) Presidents Council announced that it would not sponsor league competition, including championships, for fall and winter sports during the 2020-2021 academic year. The decision was unanimous and covers men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, men’s and women’s indoor track and field, and volleyball. The presidents of the 10 member institutions made the decision in coordination with representative athletic directors in order to protect the health and safety of student-athletes, coaches, staff and administration, their families, and broader campus and local communities.
Ripon College and the MWC will remain focused on providing meaningful experiences for all student-athletes in 2020-2021. The Department of Athletics and our coaches are committed to providing engaging and significant team experiences for our student-athletes, which could include opportunities for practice, small group training, and, if appropriate, limited and controlled scrimmages in the months ahead. Coaches will be in contact with members of their teams in the days ahead to communicate options around team training, meetings and contingency plans for the winter season.
Ripon College and the MWC will continue to monitor those factors impacting the decision for suspension of the fall and winter sport seasons, and will take action to resume athletic competition when it is deemed safe to do so.
Sincerely,
Zach Messitte
