Redistricting and Voting
November 3rd 11:30 pm - November 4th 12:45 am @ Zoom Webinar
With the release of new census data in early August, state legislatures will now undertake redrawing election districts for the next ten years. Where one party controls the legislature, partisan redrawing district maps is likely to occur, resulting in continued gerrymandering throughout the country. This has important implications for voting and for control of both the US Congress and state legislatures for the next decade.
This panel will discuss this issue of redistricting and whether there are partisan-neutral methods available to ensure fairness and protect equal effectiveness of each citizen vote, especially in Wisconsin.
Panelists include:
1) Joan Ballweg, Republican State Senator in the 14th Senatorial District of Wisconsin
2) Professor Jordan Ellenberg, John D. MacArthur Professor of Mathematics, University of Wisconsin Madison
3) Ellen Sorensen, President of the League of Women Voters of the Ripon Area, moderator of the panel
4) Martin Farrell, Professor Emeritus of Politics and Government, and Board President of the Fond du Lac Board of Supervisors
