Documentary Screening: Butterfly, Butterfly with Director Len Morris
March 3rd: 1:05 pm - 2:15 pm @ Bear Auditorium
Len Morris will present his newest film, Butterfly, Butterfly (running time 38 minutes). Butterfly, Butterfly (2022) documents a personal journey of remembrance through thirty years of filming children all over the world. The film is a measure of gains made in eliminating child labor. The film had its world premier at The United Nations Association Film Festival at the end of October. It then was shown at The International Children’s Human Rights Film Festival in Turkey, and in December had its Island premier at the MVFF at the Grange. This event is free and open to the public.
For the last 30 years, filmmaker Len Morris has been filming stories about children on every continent and across the US and observing the changes that have occurred for better or worse in children’s human rights. Butterfly, Butterfly shows footage that hasn’t been seen by the public before and is a measure of the gains made through advocacy–a snapshot of how we treat children as a society, a look at the future. This film is a personal salute to the beauty and resilience of children.
Len Morris is the editorial director of Media Voices for Children, a documentary filmmaker, lecturer, and advocate for children’s human rights. In 2012, he was the recipient of the Iqbal Masih Award from the U.S. Department of Labor for his “extraordinary efforts to end the worst forms of child labor.” Len’s work has been shown at the US Department of Labor, The World Bank, the US State Department, USAID and on dozens of college campuses.
The event is sponsored by the Center for Politics and the People and co-sponsored by Freeland, Frontline Organization for a World Free of Wildlife Trafficking and Human Slavery.
